Abrahamskraal Guest Farm is a working Karoo farm turned hospitality establishment, situated 10km off the N1 on the gravel road to Prince Albert in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is owned and run by Hestie and Johan Fourie.
It’s been a while since I had the opportunity or time to photograph a hospitality establishment or guest house, so I was excited to have the opportunity to photograph this guest house for their marketing and website. The accommodation is lovely and homey, fully equipped, with a luxurious old-world feel, and they also have a gorgeous wedding venue (not shown in pictures – I was only commissioned to photograph the accommodation part of this hospitality establishment).
Abrahamskraal Guest Farm was also special for me to shoot because it used to be my home for about 6 months, long before it was a guest house. This was my first visit to the guest house since I moved away as a child, and even though the house is changed significantly and in all the best ways, photographing it evoked many childhood memories of breathtaking sunsets from the West-facing porch, nights sleeping under the stars and counting the shooting stars, and seeking refuge in the cool house from the relentless Karoo summer heat.
Shown in the reel are some of my favourite photographs of this guest house, shot in a relatively short period of time. Panorama images at client’s request for use in website banners.
