The Talloires Network is an international association of institutions committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of higher education. They are based in Boston, Massachusetts in the USA, and have members and partners across the globe in 77 countries. During December of 2014 they held their annual leaders conference in Cape Town at Spier. The event ran over 5 days, and saw big personalities. I was the official event photographer, together with my amazing assistant, Marchelle Hermanus from Cape Town.
This event counts as one of the highlights of my career – not for the people I got to photograph, but for the connections I made and the incredible spirit of community and cooperation we experienced among delegates. During this week we heard and witnessed incredible stories and met such inspiring people, so much so that, even though we were beat from a week-long shoot, I was sad that it was over.
Another seemingly fated connection I made was with my second shooter, with whom I had worked for the first time. Marchelle is an amazing person with a kind heart and solid values. It is not an overstatement to say that she was a pillar during that week, and of course, her attention to detail scored her some serious brownie-points in my book! I will always look back on this job with fondness.
