A window can be a symbol of a spiritual entrance, a visual bridge between the inside and the outside, a place where light enters to illuminate the dark interior. Humans are often drawn to windows for these reasons that they often don’t even realise.
A window, intact in a derelict building, unused, no one to gaze through it, no one to draw curtains to block out the outside, and no one to open it to let fresh air in, deep in the South African interior. It’s a window in an abandoned house, on a virtually abandoned farm, miles and miles from anywhere significant.
But it continues to reflect the sky – a sense of hope I find in this image. A sense of nostalgia.
